Cameroon Commission Sets Priorities Based on Situation Analysis
The Cameroon NCDI Poverty Commission convened in Yaounde for a four-hour meeting on 31 May to set priorities based on an initial analysis of the non-communicable diseases and injuries (NCDI) burden in the country.
Cameroon NCDI Poverty Commission Chair Professor Samuel Kingue delivered opening remarks at the hybrid event. After group introductions, West Africa Regional Lead Dr. Emmanuel Mensah updated the group on the progress of other countries across the NCDI Poverty Network.
The meeting continued with Dr. Haoua Farida leading a review of the Cameroon situation analysis, which drew attention to the high out-of-pocket cost for NCDI care in the country. Dr. Nathanel Chimi and Dr. Andreas Frambo provided a walk-through of the methodology used for prioritizing NCDI conditions before a group discussion focused on adopting a list of priority conditions based on burden, disability, severity, and equity. Commissioners will continue to refine the list of priority conditions before the list of priority interventions is finalized.
The event concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Kingue.
The Cameroon NCDI Poverty Commissions is supported by Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) and the Ministry of Health.
