Two NCDI Poverty Network physicians lent their expertise during a recent diabetes training workshop that the Sonia Nabeta Foundation hosted in Uganda.

The Warrior Educator Training Workshop brought together 50 young people living with type 1 diabetes from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe to increase their own training skills and grow their confidence in strengthening their communities.

Dr. Colin Pfaff, the Network’s associate director of programs, and Dr. Natnael Abebe, the Network’s regional advisor for Uganda and Ethiopia, facilitated group discussions for the warrior educators.

“It was truly inspiring to see the motivation and energy of this group to bring education and support to other people living with diabetes in their communities,” said Dr. Pfaff. “I’m totally convinced that this is one of the best ways to bring education and support to people receiving care at PEN-Plus clinics.”

NTV Uganda highlighted the training in a video.
