The NCDI Poverty Commission of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has published its final Phase 1 Report.

The report represents a significant amount of dedicated work from Commission members over several years, beginning with the launch of the Commission in May 2021.

In October 2023, Commission members gathered for a priority-setting workshop, where they reviewed noncommunicable disease data. Driving the conversation were two Commission members, Dr. Marc Yambayamba and Dr. Aimée Lulebo, both faculty members at the University of Kinshasa. During that meeting, participants developed and validated a list of 25 priority noncommunicable diseases along with their estimated costs. Sickle cell disease emerged at top of the list, followed by cancer.

The Commission’s final Phase 1 Report is divided into two parts: situation analysis and priority setting.
